Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden proudly presents a remarkable collection by renowned fashion designer and collector Robert Kroner from the Netherlands. This collection pays homage to the Chinese imperial courts from 700 years ago.

Through his expertise, Robert applied unique hand-stitching, painting, and embossed the panels to portray the splendor of the traditional Ming Dynasty court attire.  The inspiration behind this collection is rooted in the following:

    • The beautiful and traditional attire worn by Chinese generals, emperors and empresses.
    • An inherited family collection of Asian art.
    • The book, Son of Heaven: Imperial Arts of China.
    • Passion and love for fashion and arts.

Robert Kroner calls upon us to enjoy the absolute aesthetics of the past. Join us for the free opening reception on the March 10th from 2:30PM to 4:00 PM, (entrance from Carrall Street); and a free workshop on the March 23rd from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Hall of Hundred Rivers of the Garden. Please join us to celebrate the opening of a new exhibit BETA VULGARIS: THE SUGAR BEET PROJECTS by Kelty McKinnon and Keri Latimer.

Nikkei National Museum’s gallery will be transformed into a Japanese dry garden, punctuated by large sculptural ‘boulders’ made of molten, burnt, and sculpted sugar. A wooden boardwalk will traverse overtop of this landscape conflating the “hills of Mission” to the flat, striated furrows of the sugarbeet fields in southern Alberta.
