Iranian folk music, or (regional music), covers the Traditional Folk Music in the various regions of Iran. It’s important to note that the folk traditions contain a rich musical heritage that has influenced and helped the creation of the dastg?h (Radif) system throughout its evolution.
Iran contains several ethnic minorities with their own variations of Iranian folk music, including Azeri, Bakhtiari, Baluchi, Sistani, Gilaki, Mazindarani, Kurd and Turkmen peoples. It often concerns topics of rural life, such as love and marriage, death, dancing, agricultural events in the year, or religious ceremonies. While Persian classical music has been at the forefront of Iranian culture in the 20th century, through the efforts of some popular singers and musicians, the performance of folk music has been revitalized in post-revolution Iran as an essential part of the country’s cultural heritage.
In this unique event, the festive and celebrated music of various regions of Iran such as, Mazendaran, Loristan, Khorasan and Sistan & Baluchistan will be performed by some of the most talented Persian performers living in the Greater Vancouver area.
All profits from our event are donated to the flood victims in Iran.
